HOW DOES TEETH WHITENING WORK?
Natural tooth color is a result of large natural pigment and stain molecules trapped within the microstructure of teeth. All whitening gels work by breaking down these large molecules into their smaller components and producing byproducts known as “bleaching factors” that lighten teeth. The effectiveness of whitening depends upon the concentration of the gel and the length of time they are in contact with teeth.
Most in-office systems like Zoom! are very highly concentrated but are usually applied for a duration of 1 hour under intense light and heat, causing your teeth to rapidly dehydrate and become extremely sensitive. The dehydration may give your teeth the appearance of being whiter at the end of treatment, but this is usually short-lived and patients are often disappointed in the results. Take home whitening trays and over-the-counter systems like Crest Whitestrips allow you to increase the treatment time within the comforts of your home. Unfortunately, whitening gels in imprecisely-fitting trays or strips are quickly broken down by enzymes called peroxidases found in saliva. Within 30 minutes, most of the gel is broken down by our saliva.

WHICH TEETH WHITENING SYSTEM WORKS THE BEST?
We are asked this almost on a daily basis. Most of our patients express a desire for whiter teeth when asked for the reasons for their visit. It makes sense since people are more confident when their appearance is accentuated by a radiant, white smile. But there are so many options available on the market today that it can be very confusing to know which system works best. There are over-the-counter systems such as Crest Whitestrips, take home whitening-for-life trays, and light-activated one-hour systems such as ZOOM! Obviously patients want the system that works best with minimum sensitivity and competitive cost.
We have offered all of these systems in our office over the years. Unfortunately the results were usually disappointing and patients reported a high rate of sensitivity during treatment. We would routinely talk patients out of costly whitening systems because we did not believe it was worth the investment.
…Until we discovered the KOR Deep Whitening System.
WHAT MAKES KOR DEEP WHITENING BETTER THAN THE REST?
KOR whitening trays are made at the KOR Labs from highly precise impressions of your teeth that we take in our office. The trays are constructed with high quality materials specially designed to keep KOR whitening gel inside of the tray rather than flowing out into the mouth where enzymes in saliva rapidly breakdown the gel. The process requires patients to wear the trays while sleeping for two weeks where the gel can contact the tooth surface for hours at a time without deactivation from saliva. KOR also addresses the issue of sensitivity by providing a varnish that is applied to the teeth prior to whitening that seals many open dentin tubules which cause sensitivity. Additionally, the water-based KOR gel within the tray prevent teeth from dehydrating, further minimizing sensitivity.
HOW MUCH DOES KOR DEEP WHITENING COST AT TRADERS POINT DENTAL?
KOR offers three different whitening systems depending on the type and severity of the staining:
- KOR Deep Whitening take-home tray system for $549. This will deliver a great result for 80% of patients.
- KOR Max (take-home tray system + one in-office procedure) for $799. This is more stubbornly stained teeth.
- KOR Ultra Max (take-home tray system + two in-office procedures) for $1049. This is designed for patients with deep tetracycline-type stains which present as dark brown or gray bands on teeth. Patients with this type of problem did not have a reliable option for whitening before KOR.
